Lavi has dark red hair which is straight and falls to just above his shoulders. Most of the time he wears his hair up with a green bandanna, to keep it somewhat out of his way. His eyes are a medium green, however his right eye is always covered with an eyepatch, as it was injured when he was a child. Both of Lavi's ears are pierced, and he wears a small silver hoop in each ear. In matters of dress, Lavi tends to be somewhat simple. He favors dark, earthy colors, such as green or brown, coupled with brighter colors such as teal or orange. Slacks and long-sleeved shirts are the norm, usually with a short coat, boots, and his favorite scarf. Lavi still tends to think like a traveler when he chooses his clothes, opting for durability over fashion. That isn't to say Lavi doesn't know how to look good though. |

For all he doesn't talk too much about his past, Lavi is very outgoing. He likes talking to people and making new friends, often faster than his 'new friends' might like. He has a certain penchant for giving people nicknames, even if they aren't particularly liked. He'll simply continue calling the person by the nickname and whether they eventually answer to the nickname or not doesn't matter a bit to Lavi. Even threats of violence (or actual violence) won't deter him. The other part of Lavi, the 'pre-Lavi' in a sense, is more detached from the world around him. He's seen humans at their worst and they disappoint him. Humans start war after war after war and he thinks they're stupid for it. This other part of him is his observing side, the part of him that watches the world go by around him, in it but not of it. The observation skills he developed as part of his training to become Bookman are keen, able to exactly memorize details in a brief second. This cold indifferent side is what people glimpse whenever Lavi is acting seriously or when he lets his temper loose. As silly as Lavi can get, he still knows when it's time to be serious, almost being too serious. The temper unsettles Lavi a bit, as he hadn't needed a temper before, when he was still uninvolved, before people started mattering to him. Now he's realized that he's capable of immense anger if someone he cares about is hurt. It's the caring about people part that unsettles Lavi the most. |

Lavi desires to be a Bookman himself one day, and from the moment he was found, traveled with the Bookman who found him, whom he affectionately refers to as Gramps. Lavi also calls him Panda due to the perpetual dark circles around his eyes, much to the Bookman's chagrin. Each time they went on a different mission, the used a new name, thus leading to Lavi's accumulation of names. As soon as he learned to write, Lavi too began recording the hidden history of the world, though his were unofficial due to his youth and inexperience. One might suspect Lavi's education to have suffered due to the constant traveling in his youth, but it's quite the opposite. Lavi tends to be considerably well informed, especially in reference to history. However, he did not attend any actual schools until he was almost 13. At that time, the Bookmen gave Lavi an assignment, a precursor to their usual tests to see if he was suited to becoming a Bookman. Lavi was to attend school and record it, record unbiasedly the lives of the children around him. It was at this time that he took the name Lavi. For a while, Lavi did just that, emotionlessly recorded the day to day activities of his classmates. He smiled, he laughed, he joked, he did the same as he had every other mission. He sailed through, a part of the school, but not really part of it. He made 'friends' and did everything other school children did. But he remained detached from his so called 'friends,' never really opening up to them, never caring about them. But Lavi's youth worked against him, and he began to enjoy school. He slowly, began to care about his classmates and teachers. One boy in particular captured his attention, one Yuu Kanda. Kanda intrigued him, and Lavi wanted nothing more than to chip past that cold façade the dark haired boy kept up and figure him out. Slowly, Lavi began to betray the Bookman ideals of detachment and unbiasedness. By the time Lavi entered high school, his focus on his assignment had weakened a bit. He attended school enthusiastically, thinking of himself more as a 'student' than as an 'apprentice Bookman'. And his harassment of Kanda continued, earning him near daily bruises. But despite the other boy's protests, Lavi couldn't leave Kanda alone. There was something almost sad about the boy, something almost lonely, and Lavi wanted to know what it was. All too soon, high school was over, and Lavi graduated with honors. What next? The Bookman clan was silent, waiting to see what the young apprentice would do. So Lavi decided to follow the ever enigmatic Kanda to college, enrolling in Evergrove University the moment the other boy let slip he was going there. Even more, Lavi views himself as a student, participating enthusiastically in classes and campus activities, caring just a little too much about his fellow students. | |
